• STOP RAW sewage polluting our seas and rivers
Environmental catastrophic implications of the continual deterioration of our waterways. Continual pollution of the sea and its wildlife including fish stock that humans depend on. Health risks to us all both indirectly and directly . Not good enough to continue not improving sewage systems that have been unequivocally identified as unfit for purpose.

  • Cancellation of Pensioners 'Triple Lock"
All pensioners need to stand up to Government now. If they want to write us off as part of the future now then they should realise this is breaching a contract. We paid everything required during our working lives and to find this was a lie then the matter should be referred to the courts.

  • Breach of tenancy contract by management team regarding fire alarm frequency
Dear Management Team at iQ City, We hope this letter finds you well. PETITION This is an official complaint on behalf of the iQ City residents in regards to the fire alarm issue taking place. We would like to begin with some background information. On arrival, which for most of us was more than a month ago, we were told by the Management Team that the fire alarm will be tested every Wednesday at 2pm. We were also told that due to the heat and smoke detectors being a touch too sensitive, the fire alarm might go off a little more often than once a week, but they reassured us by saying that they are currently working on the system to make it less sensitive. Most of us being new at iQ City, we took the Management Team’s word for it, as they are the ones supposed to be looking after our well-being, health and safety here at iQ City. The issue is that after more than a month living here, we are repeatedly disturbed by the fire alarm going off numerous times per day and mostly during the night/sleep hours (i.e. between 11pm and 7am). The alarm is way too loud for our small rooms. In the beginning, despite the situation being highly inconvenient, it was bearable. However, the fire alarm has been going off more and more often and for longer periods. The situation seems to be deteriorating as the days go by and it is becoming increasingly unbearable for residents to live with such conditions. After numerous complaints made by residents, the Operations Manager of iQ City sent us an email stating: “We are carrying out routine maintenance of our fire alarm system at City, which means you may hear the alarm go off more than normal.” Following this email, we all felt that the Management Team at iQ City was taking our discomfort lightly. We understand that work is being carried out and that the system needs to be tested and manually turned on for verification purposes, but the alarm mostly goes off during out of office hours and during weekends. We strongly believe this is unjustifiable. We, residents at iQ City, are all very disappointed by the unacceptable living conditions caused by the fire alarm. Residents are paying at least £300pw because there was faith in your services, marketed to be of a very high standard, yet ultimately, we fail to see the living quality we were promised. Needless to say, current status quo is not in line with the statement on weekly fire alarm testing made in the tenancy contract. We booked rooms in accommodation for the reason to be provided with a facility where we can study and apply to career opportunities, rest, socialize, and feel safe during our stay. However, we are all suffering from repetitive disruptions to our REM sleep, and to our work and studies; we are all being exposed too frequently to a high-intensity noise (91 dB) for periods of several minutes, multiple times a day. This is especially serious as it jeapordizes the safety of residents, who no longer respond and evacuate due to doubt in the legitimacy of the alarm. This is not to say that consequences including, but not limited to, sleep deprivation, hearing fatigue, decreased productivity and focus are any less serious. Moreover, for residents applying for jobs and undergoing online interviews, as well as sitting important examinations, performance to full capacity is threatened should the fire alarm abruptly go off and cause the student confusion, disrupting their train of thought. It is worth mentioning that the World Health Organization (WHO) report a permissible daily noise exposure to be a maximum of 85dB up to a maximum of 8 hours, but we are exposed to 91 dB every time the fire alarm goes off. Unfortunately, hopes of calm, safe and healthy living at iQ City are gradually fading away, along with loyalty to the accommodation. It is a shame that residents feel their complaints appear negligible for the Management Team at iQ City, leading to a lack of a warm, welcoming, and safe atmosphere fostered by iQ Student Accommodation for us residents.

  • Remove adoption age limit
There is an age limit for adoption of 18 years old and not all adults have made this decision by this age. I want to see the age limit being removed as if a potential mum, dad and adoption person haven’t decided before there 18th they cannot go ahead. I feel this is wrong because if an 18+ want a new family for whatever reason it could only be good for there sense of belonging and mental health. I have this situation and this would make this person feel that she has chosen who she wants to call mum and dad and feel for once in her life included in a loving family as her biological parent don’t make her feel wanted. It can only make unloved or unwanted children/ adults feel included if they wish to take this step

  • Stop spiking with compulsory bag search at clubs
It is important because it means people can go out and have fun with they’re friends without watching over their shoulder. I’ve seen victims of spiking. There is several stories in the news for perfect examples. Sarah buckle is a recent one who was not only spiked but ended up in hospital with no memory of the previous night. She felt ‘violated’ and ‘vulnerable’. No person should ever have to experience this fear during a night with friends. These needles they are using could carry infections that will affect people for the rest of their lives. Again something that people have no control over.

  • Law of succession reform in Scotland
How would you feel if this happened to you? In Dec 2020 I came home to find my partner of 12 years dead. Not allowed to stay in my home as it was a sudden death,I packed myself, his step son & our cat up to stay at my partners sisters until I could return a few days later. In shock I spent the next few days/weeks on the phone to work/banks/insurance etc. I asked my sister in law(though not married)if she knew of a solicitor. She did, on the phone I was given a quick run down of the process & was told to get back in touch after the funeral & Christmas.Jan 4th I emailed the solicitor, reminded him of who I was & asked if he could get in touch to go over what we do next.Jan 5th I was emailed by another solicitor in the same firm & she explained she had spoken to my sister in law,had emailed her what happens next & confirmed that my sister in law would go over this with me.I didn’t think anything of it at that time,I had a good relationship with my sister in law & had hit a few walls with phone calls etc as I was not married or next of kin. So trusted the process & the information my sister in law was telling me,it was explained that an application through the courts to appoint an executer, which would be her, could take months(covid etc) her words to me early on were ‘this has to be done properly so that my dad or my mum(both strained relationships) don't come looking for something 6 months down the line’ .Not once had I been told by the solicitor or sister in law to get my own solicitor or that I would have to apply within 6 months to have anything to do with the home or vehicles we own. Other people told me to get one but I was not capable of making clear decisions, I was trusting the process & what I was being told. I took only 4 weeks off work, couldn’t afford to be off longer. I waited 4 months to get my partners phone & tablet back from police.I waited 5 months to get a definitive answer on the passing of my partner from the procurator fiscal,Toxic effects of Nefopam and gabapentin, two of many medications he was taking for chronic pain. In those months of waiting I was not sleeping or eating properly, working full time, struggling with anxiety & depression, no time to think about what questions I should be asking, again trusting the process. He had no will but I believed my partner had put things in place for me & his step son to be looked after in the event of him passing away. One of them being I was 50% beneficiary on death in service from his work along with his sister & mum for the other 50%.In June his mum was in hospital & I ended up looking after her cat for 4-5weeks as she had a serious operation, she got home but was never really the same, sadly passing away on 21st September. Sept 9th when I received a text from my sister in law, an update from the solicitor asking for some information to be provided I started to actually fear what was going to happen to my home etc. It is then I contacted Citizens Advice who got me 15 mins free with a solicitor. I now have someone looking into things for me as I feel I have been misinformed from the start. Communication has broken down with my sister in law, I have all the sympathy for what she is going through right now but feel like we, his family unit have been totally sidelined. Recently I found out that my partner did not express a wish on his death in service so it falls into intestacy, now his sister & dad share that, my partners step son and I are totally by passed on that one. I am devastated by the passing of my partner & this is such a blow. My partner & I have been through some very tough times especially in the last couple of years, his diagnosis of diabetes, kidney stone, chronic back pain, lots of medication changes & mental health issues from his past that came to the surface again. Things have been hard enough without all this now happening. A lot can happen in six months. Its not just mothers who are left devastated by these rules, its fathers and partners who have no children too. I know my partner did not want it to end up this way & not knowing the law he actually had no idea it would. He would not have told me for years that these things were in place if he didn't think he had signed the form or expressed his wish in some way so I will forever not know what happened there. You have three years to claim after an injury at work but only six months to act, when consumed by grief, post traumatic stress & everything else life throws at you in these circumstances. I don’t have the answers to what the ins & outs of the law changes should be but surely an extension on the timescale to 12-18 months is more reasonable & able to be put in place immediately.
