• Save Bells Piece Day Centre
This is a major Disability Service, it has been closed during the Pandemic and is set not to reopen, this is a huge blow to it's service users. Leonard Cheshire Disability own this facility and Bells Piece are willing to work with them. The service offers so much to it's users for example: Cooking, Gardening, Music, Drama and many other skills it's users would never have the opportunity of accessing.

  • Give Us The Graduation We Deserve
We pay £9,250 each year for our course to at the end receive a formal congratulations which we deserve. The excuses UoS have made are not adequate and with clubs opening in June, and concerts opening, we are more than disappointed we can’t have a graduation, even if it is altered to be more safe e.g. done outdoors, socially distanced, smaller groups. GIVE US OUR GRADUATION!

  • Write off debts taken out by coercive partners in their partner's nane
This only serves to remind the coerced/abused partner of what happened to them and also they did not apply for the credit. It frees victims of abuse from the financial burden generated by their abuser. Imagine spending 18 years being coerced, finally get up the courage to call the police. Your abuser gets sent to prison but you find that they spent money they took out in your name and now you have to pay back money that they spent or declare yourself bankrupt.

  • STOP THE BAN AGAINST FOREIGN *GHANAIAN* DRIVERS' LICENSE
STOP THE BAN AGAINST FOREIGN DRIVERS' LICENSE this important? It is important for Ghanaians living overseas to drive cars/vehicles in Ghana with their foreign Drivers' license. This is because hiring cars will be very dear and incur unnecessary extra expenses. Without drivers or taxis their Ghanaian born professional drivers with overseas licenses can't drive and their movements become restricted. Is Ghana after stagging 🧍‍♂️or moving economy? Ghanaians abroad and back home please let us all kindly append our signatures to call for a change to this decision. This is because the impact is real and would not benefit anyone. In case a family member is dying, a Ghanaian born professional driver cannot drive his or her own car to take the sick to hospital. What is DVLA and The Government of Republic of Ghana trying to accomplish? I stand to reason once again along these: First, we are Ghanaians though we do not live permanently in Ghana to waste resources in acquisition of Ghana driving license which takes about one year to be ready, also getting license in a country we visit occasionally when the license again is expensive to come by. If any individual should finally settle in Ghana, the condition is different from those of us who visit occasionally for just a month or two. Secondly, drivers with foreign drivers' license have credible international experience which local Ghanaian drivers may not have and could learn from. For instance, in Ghana, road crossing at pedestrian walkway is ignored by local drivers when pedestrians 🚶‍♂️are ready to cross, over loading of vehicles causing various road accidents and damage to the roads, local drivers lacking entire patience to driving and hence, majority of accidents every year round. The Government of the Republic of Ghana through DVLA should find a reasonable means of controlling the longer use of foreign Drivers' License but not just 90 days to one year which all countries allow. This *regulations will help the police to be more corruptible* in a country where we are totally struggling to deal with corruption. When the regulation is allowed to operate longer in its current state, the police officer is likely going to take money that will never get to the accounts of the government. I can help Ghana government and DVLA to establish something concrete that will accommodate all stakeholders to curtail the longer use of foreign Drivers' License better than permanent ban of foreign Drivers License. Let us not compare ourselves to countries who have advanced technologically to do things right and damage our economy. Let us get things done gradually, friendly and accordingly taking the economic impact into consideration, most Ghanaians will not be happy coming home, if they can not drive their own cars hence, affecting the growth of our economy especially the income generated from Ghana Ports during clearing of vehicles, which is used to subsidized Free SHS and many other projects in the country. I, therefore, suggest that the Government of the Republic of Ghana through DVLA should give this regulation a second consideration to attract our own people living overseas to invest in Ghana because they cannot come here without driving to undertake their business errands. How can they travel locally to their homes or hometowns? This decision will typically dwind

  • Act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency Now!
The climate and ecological emergency (CEE) is the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced. Every part of society all over the world is responsible for playing their part in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and stopping the destruction of nature. Derby City is no exception. The climate crisis ‘biggest security threat humans have faced’, Sir David Attenborough tells UN - https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/david-attenborough-climate-security-threat-b1806348.html "The planet is facing a “ghastly future of mass extinction, declining health and climate-disruption upheavals” that threaten human survival because of ignorance and inaction": https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/13/top-scientists-warn-of-ghastly-future-of-mass-extinction-and-climate-disruption-aoe Scientists are warning that “business as usual” will lead to: * Mass food shortages from crop failures * Increased flooding from rainfall increase and sea level rise * Storm and flood damage to housing and infrastructure * Heatwave related illnesses and deaths * More wildfires * Drinking water shortages * Increased risk of disease outbreaks and more pandemics * Economic damage * Mass migration as parts of the planet become uninhabitable due to extreme temperatures or sea level rise * The collapse of civilisation as we know it People are already suffering and dying from the impacts of climate breakdown. Millions more will die without immediate urgent action: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/mar/08/global-heating-tropical-regions-human-livability In May 2019 Derby City Council declared a climate emergency. So far there has been no action to reduce Derby's carbon emissions or even measure them and set targets. Instead the Council has continued with "business as usual" and continue to follow Local Plans that were written before the declaration of a climate emergency and which fail to take into account the latest and very stark science about the state of nature and our climate. The current Local Plans are not fit to respond to the climate and ecological emergency, make no reference to recent UK Government climate laws and targets so must be revised immediately: https://www.derby.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/planning/local-plan/ So why have Derby City Council continued to do nothing? One issue is many Councillors do not have an understanding of climate science, ecology or air pollution and have refused to engage with evidence and reports with policy and action recommendations for local authorities. The Council supported the A38 expansion in their Local Transport Plan which was found unlawful on climate grounds following a legal challenge by residents. The council also dismissed objections and petitions from Derby residents concerned about the road expansion in relation to the climate emergency, loss of nature and increased air pollution. How can elected public servants be trusted to make the best decisions for the future of Derby and our planet if they are unaware of the crisis or the solutions and support unlawful, environmentally damaging infrastructure schemes? Which is why CEE training must be mandatory for every member of the Council and qualified experts must be consulted on local authority plans. Another problem is some Councillors believe pursuing outdated ideas of economic growth and meeting development targets set by Westminster are more important than preventing climate and ecological collapse. Despite much evidence that further inaction on the climate emergency will cause greater economic harm than any spending on action to prevent worsening climate breakdown: https://www.oecd.org/environment/indicators-modelling-outlooks/circle.htm The Council currently grants planning permissions to developers that favour building on greenfield sites, that damage local biodiversity and install fossil fuel based heating systems that will need to be replaced by the homeowners as the UK transitions to low-carbon heat sources. Buyers of brand-new homes will face average costs of more than £20,000, whereas if the housing developers built new houses with high energy efficiency standards and a heat pump instead of a gas boiler the additional cost would be only £4,800. Why is this being allowed to happen? The Council's current decarbonisation plans are placing hope for climate solutions in future technologies such as hydrogen fuels and carbon capture without trying to cut emissions. It is impossible that these technologies can be rolled out in time at the scale required. This is a ruse by fossil fuel interests to seize another decade or so of profits by distracting from taking action now. Green hydrogen and CCS will play a part in a future energy strategy, but in no way permit complacency or delay to action now. Local government has a key role to play in taking climate action. According to the Committee on Climate Change councils have influence over one third of emissions in their areas. Local authorities control transport, social care, education, strategic planning and much more that can influence efforts to curb carbon emissions and mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis. Other local authorities are already acting on the climate and ecological emergency with the urgency it requires and have developed net-zero 2030 action plans: https://pledge2030.uk/councils-for-2030/ While the UK Government has enshrined a new target in law to slash emissions by 78% by 2035: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-enshrines-new-target-in-law-to-slash-emissions-by-78-by-2035 All of this is possible and Derby City Council must wake up, stop delaying and act on the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced.

  • Bring back trust in the Telephone
The phone used to be a tool, a useful convenience and a joy to many people. The technology has been taken over by criminals, to the extent that you can no longer trust any caller not personally known to you. Many people are now AFRAID to answer it! This is APPALLING. We get several scam calls per week on landlines - sometimes several calls per day, sometimes on mobiles - from criminals trying to con us out of our money or identity details. Those calls appear to come from some number, or NO number, your BANK's number, literally ANY number they choose. This cannot be right. Non-existent numbers should be blocked. This is ENABLING crime and must be stopped. Blocking those numbers is pointless because they simply pick another random number, perhaps for every call. Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is useless because only genuine, reputable companies check to see if they are allowed to call you. Scammers do not. Companies genuinely needing to show a different number for some phones (maybe for outworkers) should have to register those numbers and display a real, company number which they actually own and can be traced to. The ability to buy a number in some town or village where you don't live or don't do business is also surely enabling crime or deception and should be investigated. It is readily available.

  • Accessible Toilets and Suitable Breaks for Delivery Drivers Across the UK
Going to the toilet is natural, and it is a basic human right to be able to do so. Since COVID-19, there has been an increased demand for delivery drivers, from Amazon to Sainsbury's, and these workers are often left in the middle of an unknown rural area, desperate for the toilet. Not only are they often left without access to toilet facilities, but they are often not even allocated suitable time during shift for toilet breaks. Imagine needing a toilet out in the middle of nowhere, during a pandemic, under a strict time pressure. What would you do? We have all seen posts and news articles of van drivers shamed for doing something natural. Instead of humiliating them, let's do something to change the situation and make it more humane for everyone!

  • SAY NO TO SUPER LEAGUE | Boycott Manchester United
Growing up football fans supporting Manchester United is something to be truly proud of. This ‘Super League’ will be the death of football. There is simply a fulfilling excitement when watching our teams play in our respective domestic leagues then watching the European giants clash in the Champions League. It’s something that just cannot be imitated or improved on. We hope this inspires not just Man United to take a stand, but also, fan bases of all clubs involved in this cash-grab scheme. Football would never be the same.
