  • Get the government to stop funding in fossil fuels and to invest in true green energy souces instead
The current plans and accounting methods used by our government to meet the challenging targets for 2030 and 2050 are more blah blah! and greenwashing than they are real plans to achieve a carbon neutral future. Comparisons with other countries in this scenario are unhelpful as we "export" our carbon footprint and pretend to be leading the world in cutting emissions when the truth is far from this. We need a proper plan which clearly outlines HOW we are going to make progress and WHAT we are going to spend on it.

  • Subsidised Public Transport for over 60's
This is important for equality purposes, no one group of people should have benefits that are excluded from the same group of people in another area. This is regional discrimination.

  • Stop the imminent closure of Brighton Health Club
Several thousand members and around 100 staff have been left in shock when being informed that on the 21st November the club will close. The University is behaving with complete disregard to the impact their action is having on the club community and the staff who work there. Despite professing to value the community and championing mental health causes, the University’s behaviour is unethical and reprehensible. We ask the university to reconsider its decision and by keeping the facility open and thus make a contribution to the well-being of several thousand people. Mahatma Gandhi said, ‘Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.’ Dear Professor Humphris we would love you to be happy!

  • Diesel Electric Trains shouldn’t be running
The diesel electric trains are expensive to run and over 60 years old. Nobody makes them any more. The line cannot be left out anymore. Levelling up? This is the worst possible example.

  • Keep The AVA Building Open At The Weekend
Studio access is crucial if an artist wants to improve, this is like taking a kitchen away from a chef, they would need the knives, blender and all other types of materials and devices on order to perfect their recipe. We were told at the open day that studio access would be granted, this gives people the flexibility to work during the week and practice art at the weekend. Without this opportunity to student progress is stifled and COVID-19 also has a higher chance of spreading as students have to come in Monday to Friday, weekend opening hours would alleviate congestion. Full time degrees cost over £9000 and art students pay for the privilege of the studio access which has been taken.
