  • Make MPs responsible to their constituents.
I want a representative in parliament that reflects the views and feelings of myself and all the other constituents. To think that this can be achieved by a single vote every 5 years is ludicrous, things move much faster than that these days. Continuously, I and other people I know, write to our MP with our views and problems only to have the exact party line thrust in our faces. This is not democracy !

  • Save London's City Skyline Campaign
The proposed skyscraper at 22 Bishopsgate is on plot earmarked for the tallest building in the City of London. This site should therefore be reserved for a building of architectural merit and be world enviable. Instead in Karen Cook of PLP Architecture, (the senior architect of the scheme) own admission to the Architects Journal "we didn't want to appear extravagant in terms of cost and design" "I wanted to do something dignified and simple, allowing the other more articulated one-off pieces (such as the Cheesegrater and the Gerkin) to remain special." This scheme will destroy the city views to millions of Londoners and affect London's appeal around the world. This particular site will be of special architectural interest to the public and the proposed scheme does not meet their expectation. The prior superior scheme gained planning permission and is a building worthy in London's skyline. The previous proposal can be found here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=375557 Please sign if you wish the proposal be rejected at planning or called in for public inquiry.

  • Reinstate ‘Purdah’ period on the EU referendum
The elections watchdog said it was ‘disappointed and concerned’ by the decision to scrap long-standing rules used in previous referendums to stop public funds going on political campaigning. The EU Referendum Bill, which will come before MPs tomorrow, also removes the 28-day ‘purdah’ period seen in last year’s vote on Scottish independence and the 2011 referendum on the voting system.

  • Improve Wigan Cycle Network
A fatality happened on Robin Park Road in May. http://www.itv.com/news/granada/update/2015-05-15/cyclist-killed-near-wigan-polcie-station/ A tragedy like this is a clear indicator that the Wigan cycle network is unfit for use. Its high time that something has to be done to make cycling safer in the borough and to prevent any further incidents happening in the future. Other references that display the disappointing effort Wigan council make towards the cycling infrastructure: https://samuriinbred.wordpress.com/2014/05/05/wigan-orrell-cycling-corridor/

  • Boycott the 2018 World Cup.
FIFA is a world wide paragon of fair play and inclusion. We feel that this has been tainted by the current corruption arrests. We'd like to see FIFA reformed and overhauled.

  • Stop Big Business turning Valued Pubs into local shops
Nice Old Pubs were built where people meet and socialise. This happens to a much lesser extent in shops. Once a Pub is gone another is unlikely to be built in the local area, so destroying the community spirit.

  • Introduce mandatory media sourcing
In an age of fear inducing, xenophobic, biased media, retractions, edits and apologies have become far too commonplace in many media outlets. Many newspapers have become a voice of fear and oppression, making claims, particularly about benefits claimants and immigrants, which is spreading fear, discontent and creating hostilities, only for these 'stories' to be found out as lies, or 'bent truths', with retractions and apologies published in tiny, tiny squares in the corner of pages, unseen by most, and by that time, the damage is already done. So this petition would suggest that, like students in universities are forced to, that all media outlets must provide valid, reliable and accessible sources for all of their information. This would mean: *Where they got the information, i.e. a person (and how they verified this person, with links to another verifiable source, unless it presents an obvious risk to the person involved, and that risk can be 100% proved), which website they used (for statistics), links to studies used, etc. *How they verified and cross referenced all information before processing it into an article. *Having accessible links to all sources used, where reasonably practicable. This petition would also like to suggest that when/if an error is made by publishers, the retraction/apology is printed on the front page of their publication. The public gain all news knowledge from the media, and when an article is posted which stirs emotions such as anger, fear, hatred, etc and could be seen to promote xenophobia, racism, etc, it is important that the publishers take responsibility for that and inform the public of the truth. This idea could be the foundation for legislation to keep the media unbiased, truthful, informative and in the public interest. For too long, people have been hurt, shamed, stereotyped and damaged by slanderous and false media reporting, as well as discontent introduced by certain publications who insist on inflammatory headlines stating that we as Britons are being 'stolen' from by immigrants, while running adverts for anti-poverty charities on the same pages. The media needs regulation for public interest, and a public forum should be opened for everyone to express their views, so genuine, positive legislation can be formed to protect the public from being fed falsities and tearing our multi-cultural society apart because of misinformation and fear. Thank you for your time.

  • Get international cricket back on terrestial televison
Sky sports are ruining the beautiful game for the sake of money. Empty grounds, dwindling support and being limited to short highlights on terrestrial television is slowly undermining a great British tradition. We urge Helen Grant to step in and see to it that all sports of "National interests" be given to the masses and not just those who can afford to pay Sky Sports extortionate monthly charges.

  • Balance "poverty porn" with "one law for the rich" porn
Farming subsidies paid to millionaires, VAT breaks for companies bidding for lucrative NHS contracts, the recent tax rules changes that mean companies don't have to pay the balance of their corporation tax to the UK tax authorities, are benefits too. They amount to tens of millions, if not billions, of pounds. They still come out of general taxation, and are paid for by the less well off who proportionally pay far more tax. So there needs to be far more balance. All of this is not good for public debate as it is never put into a forum where voters can see it. There are approximately 10 times more people employed chasing benefits fraud that there are chasing tax evasion, yet the amounts of money concerned are 10 times the other way. If we are concerned about "freeloaders" and "scroungers" who operate with a sense of entitlement ignoring the morals of what they do then ALL of them need to be taken to task, instead of a small cross section of vulnerable people who are being exploited by "poverty porn".
