• Avon gorge missing road link
It has needed to be upgraded for as long as I can remember there has been serious crashes due to the existing narrow bridge, if they can build the Queensferry Crossing why can’t they upgrade this vital missing link

  • Abolish Tolls on the Tamar Bridge
Traditionally SE Cornwall and Plymouth have lower affluence and salaries than contemporary areas yet logistics operators small business owners and private commuters have to pay to travel to economic, education, employment and health services due to bridge toll. This is a section of trunk highway A38 from Bodmin to Mansfield and the operational costs of the bridge SHOULD be born from National transport taxation not local tolls

  • Stop pavement parking in Levenshulme
To live more active lives we must recliam pavements for pedestrians, particularly those with mobility issues and pushchairs, who require more space to navigate safely. Now even what little space is left is being taken from us, by the very machines that made the streets too unsafe to walk on in the first place. We need to create spaces people feel comfortable in outside of a car, and currently we have cars clogging our paths, preventing the flow of pedestrians, and preventing the active travel that keeps us all fit, decreases the risk of crime (more eyes on the street) and helps business. Sign the petition! More info here https://streetsforpeople.co.uk/2020/11/20/the-great-pavement-robbery/

  • air traffic bans should include private jets
It is now widely accepted that the spread of corona virus is exacerbated by people flying around the world and the government is currently considering a ban on such travel except where unavoidable. It seems the focus is on holidays but this ignores the large numbers of flights by those wealthy enough to afford their own private jet (or more). These are not subject to the same scrutiny as the commercial sector but represent a similar risk regarding transmission of viruses. In addition, a Lear jet carrying one passenger and cabin crew is not conducive with an effort to counteract global warming. To ignore this private sector is to suggest that, once more, there is one rule for ordinary people and another for the powerful and wealthy.

  • Abandon Smart Motorways to Save Lives
On 19 January coroner David Urpeth recorded a verdict of unlawful killing at the inquests for Jason Mercer, 44, from Rotherham and Alexandru Murgeanu, 22, of Mansfield, who died when a lorry crashed into their vehicles near Sheffield on 7 June 2019 on the stretch of the M1 where the hard shoulder has been replaced by an active lane. Mr Urpeth said Smart Motorways without a hard shoulder carry "an ongoing risk of future deaths" and called for a review of Smart Motorway schemes. These deaths are 2 of many that have occurred on Smart Motorways and more deaths will happen if they are not removed and a safe hard shoulder is reinstated.

  • Driver Awareness courses should include Cycle Awareness
2018 records show that 99 cyclists were killed and 4106 seriously injured. From personal experience, many drivers, including while on speed awareness courses often express hostility towards cyclists. Given the vulnerable position of cyclists to vehicles, driver hostility is irrational and potentially life threating for cyclists. Educating drivers is more important than increasing punishment.

  • Regulations For The Use of Escooters On Public Roads and Pedestrian Walkways
This is important to protect motorists and pedestrian safety. These escooters are silent and appear out of nowhere at very high speed. These scooters are increasingly being used by young adults with no regard for road safety. Many have no lights and driven at night are impossible to see on the Public highway. Many users of escooters drive them with reckless abandonment from pavement to road with no regard for safety. Regulating the use would protect motorists from killing or seriously injuring an escooter user at night time and daytime. Would protect members of the public encountering high speed collisions on the pavement. Would make sure users are aware of the law in regards to using the public highway. These individuals who use these escooters do not have to have any training to use them, no theory tests to be able to protect them and road users. There needs to be a law that protects the public.
