• No child should go hungry during the holidays!
I think this is so obvious that it is a bit insulting to say. Hunger is hunger. Malnutrition is malnutrition. No kid deserves this. There is increasing evidence that poor kids go hungry in the summer holidays because they don't get their school dinners. This is a disgrace. We are the sixth richest country in the world. I imagine the best way to do this is to give emergency money to local government and voluntary organisations but if it takes putting the army on the streets running soup kitchens then let's do it.

  • Please exempt traditional mills from mandatory fortification of flour with folic acid
Mandatory fortification of all flour with folic acid will have a serious effect on the future viability and integrity of small traditional mills, and could even mean that such mills have to cease flour production; putting at risk one of the main sources of income that sustains these important historic, and in some cases listed, buildings.

  • Put England Team International Cricket on Free-to-Air TV
Due to public pressure, Sky agreed to make the Cricket World Cup Final available on Channel 4, this meant live cricket was on free-to-air TV for the first time since 2005. In most countries, the entire world cup was available on free-to-air television, yet only the final was shown here! The "England cricket team" represents England and Wales in international cricket. As a consequence, in stark contrast to the women’s football World Cup which drew record viewing figures, this has been a World Cup of missed opportunities for cricket in attracting future generations of fans and potential players, as well as meaning people who couldn't afford Sky miss out on watching international cricket. I grew up on free-to-air cricket and my parents couldn't afford Sky Sports. The next generation shouldn't miss out.

  • Sheffield City Council, stop using Glyphosate
Glyphosate-based herbicides such as RoundUp and Touchdown pose a real risk to the public, our environment and horticultural workers. Glyphosate has been banned in Holland, Denmark, Sweden and France and some Councils around the UK such as Trafford, Brighton, Bristol and Croydon. Last year Sheffield City Council used 1750 litres of Glyphosate on our pavements, verges and parks. (see https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/use_of_herbicides_fungicides_gro) Roundup kills beneficial insects. It has been proven to cause mortality of species including bees, predatory mites, lacewings, ladybirds and predatory beetles. Argentinian studies suggest that glyphosate use leads to a decline in honeybee activity. The demise of the monarch butterfly population in New York has been blamed on glyphosate. Glyphosate in soil takes 140 days to break down to half its toxicity and will continue to be taken up by plants from the soil for 2 years and longer. It’s toxic to earthworms and inhibits mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal fungi are essential for tree health, collecting nutrients and water to feed their host plant and protecting tree roots from harmful fungi and root rot diseases. Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that it was “probably carcinogenic”. Recently a breakthrough court case against Monsanto was won by a man who developed cancer after using Roundup. He was awarded $289 million in damages. Other councils now use eco-friendly alternatives such as non-toxic Foamstream. Methods such as Mesh-Tech are now available to combat Japanese Knotweed. This petition is supported by Extinction Rebellion Sheffield, Sheffield Green Parents, Sheffield Greenpeace and Sheffield Green Party.

  • Reclaim Social Care in Greater Manchester
We understand that local authority funding has been viscously cut by successive governments, since 2008. However we also understand that it is the legal responsibility of local authorities to deliver support and care to vulnerable people within their communities. We call on you, Andy Burnham, as mayor of Greater Manchester and figure head for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, to take a stand.

  • Fareham Boro - please declare Climate Emergency
We have less than 11 years to take urgent action to limit global warming to 1.5°C or we risk catastrophic and irreversible runaway climate change; this was the stark warning from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report “Global Warming of 1.5°C”. Humans have already caused approximately 1.0°C of warming, the devastating impacts of which have been seen around the world in the form of reduction of sea-ice in the Arctic, loss of coral reefs and extreme weather events. Many scientists agree that warming greater than 1.5°C will result in grave consequences for our global environment. It will impact us locally too. The price of food will rise significantly, there will be more weather extremes, and water shortages. It’s not too late to limit the problems. But it will require ambitious action from national and sub-national authorities, civil society, the private sector and local communities.

  • Stand up for Human Rights in Hong Kong
Human rights and fundamental freedoms are under attack in Hong Kong. In recent years, booksellers have been abducted, pro-democracy candidates disqualified and barred from standing for election, protestors imprisoned, and the free press undermined. A government proposal that will allow Hong Kong people to be extradited to face unjust trials in mainland China was the last straw. This June, millions took to the streets to say that enough is enough. In 1984, the United Kingdom signed a treaty with China that promised after the handover, Hong Kong people's rights and freedoms will remain unchanged until 2047. But China has broken this promise repeatedly with escalating attacks on Hongkongers' human rights. Recent events are a wake-up call. The British government has a responsibility under international law to protect human rights in Hong Kong. They must show this commitment post-Brexit, by insisting that a human rights clause is included in a future free trade agreement. This will be the first time the UK has ever negotiated a free trade agreement with Hong Kong: it must take a stand to protect human rights, fundamental freedoms and our shared values.

  • SEND Parents to be allowed to claim financial damages against The UK's Department for Education.
When the Supreme Court ruled [06 Apr 2017] ([2017] UKSC 28) [UKSC 2016/0155] IoWC v Platt - that “regularly” didn't mean “evenly spaced” or “sufficiently often” but instead “in accordance with the attendance rules” [they] agreed for the fining of UK parents, but erred in law, as [they] failed to take into account ALL children in Compulsory Education, especially SEND Children, who are continuously and REGULARLY left without Education or Schooling. "The Supreme Court unanimously allowed a Council’s appeal to fine a parent when they had removed their child a few days before the school holiday starting, on the basis that their child failed to attend 'regularly' declaring that the word ‘regularly’ means ‘by the rules prescribed by the school’. The Supreme Court failed to balance its ruling with regards to SEND Children Missing Education and Schooling, as the words “fails to attend regularly” in section 444(1)/444(1)(a) of the Education Act 1996 during term time relates to ALL Children. SEND Children are routinely and REGULARLY LEFT WITHOUT Education or Schooling because of the lack of resources, funding, and lack of school provisioning, even resorting to schools cutting their operating hours. SEND Children and Young People are also entitled to regular schooling and education under [Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014]. If the Government finds it acceptable to fine parents who take their children on holiday during term time, SEND Parents can claim damages against the DfE, their Local Authorities and Respective Schools for failing to educate and school their SEND Children during term. The Supreme Court failed to follow the 'rule of law' or the equal application of the law as [they] only favoured those children who were in school (mainstream) and who didn't attend 'regularly' for a short period of time. This favouring by the Supreme Court is a Direct and Indirect Discrimination under The Equality Act 2010 against SEND Children who are unlawfully forced to miss school or education REGULARLY by the lack of provision and or then having to be forced into a non-enabling environment, causing a health crisis. The Rule of Law is just that: the law applies equally to ALL. The lack of the rule of law can be because of negligence and or ignorance of the law itself. Therefore, the rule of law falls off the legislative radar because the government’s accountability factor is ineffective! The House of Commons (Petitions Committee) have twice rejected Janet Willicott's petition, taking five months to months to reply, stating, "We don't understand what 'rule of law' means, so please refer to the SEND Funding Petition instead and campaign that way..." This is NOT about SEND Funding; instead, it is about timely and early intervention and equality to include equity for ALL Children and Young People, especially disabled children and young people who are left without education and schooling for weeks, months, and years at a time. The European Court of Justice and or the European Court of Human Rights will need to be consulted on the validity of the Supreme Court's ruling, as The Education Act 1996 applies to ALL Children and Young People. I, Janet Willicott, mother, health professional and PhD student, have also been directly affected and impacted by many unlawful SEND due processes or outright negligence; I seek to implement a SEND Accountability Act to prevent further SEND Children and their families from being harmed by the UK's culture of nonfeasance, misfeasance and malfeasance. The UK is currently ranked at 179th position from 193 UN Ratified Countries for Children's Rights. The UK was ranked 11th just before the country went into political turmoil. However, regretfully, the UK is now ranked 193rd in Domain 5 (Enabling Environment for Child Rights.) Domain 5 = [Non-discrimination, Best Interests, Respect, Enabling Legislation, Budget/resources, Collection and analysis of data and State-civil society cooperation] How is it that a once mighty nation is ranked last? COUNTRY: UNITED KINGDOM (Total UN Countries 193) • Kids Rights Index ranking: 179 • Health ranking: 41-44 • Life ranking: 28 • Education ranking: 22 • Protection ranking: 35-36 • Environment ranking: 190-193  https://www.kidsrights.org/research/kidsrights-index/ https://files.kidsrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/18142918/KidsRights-Index-2023-Report.pdf Please help me ensure that ALL Children are regularly educated, schooled, and provided for in mainschool, specialist school, college, special hubs, or via s19 (Eduction Act 1996), alternative education, and EOTISC. SEND Children and Young People with Complex Health, Disabilities, Rare Diseases, ASD, Mental Health, ADHD, PANS/PANDAS, Syndromes, and Learning Needs, etc, are part of (ALL CHILDREN). Enough is enough. Children are legally entitled to education suitable to meet their needs; The UK Government must act lawfully. Thank you

  • Mill Lane School Crossing
With new houses are either end of Mill Lane traffic has increased and the safety of our children has reduced. With 2 near misses in just 1 week where children have nearly been knocked over by vehicles driving both up and down Mill Lane we feel it is only a matter of time before this is a reported incident.

  • Pelican crossing urgently required
This road is very dangerous!!! I was nearly wiped out this morning due to one car stopping and one not. This could have been a child! I'm concerned that it won't be long before someone will be seriously hurt or killed. Every morning, cars are having no regard to parents and children wanting to cross over the road to go to school and are flying past like maniacs! Some children walk to school themselves and it is frightening what could happen. Something urgently needs done, sooner rather than later, for the the safety of our residents.

  • Demand Spotlight Change their Gender Options to Include People Who Identify Outside of the Binary.
Spotlight is “the industry’s leading casting platform”. As such, and in such a competitive field of employment such as Stage and Screen, Spotlight is gatekeeping to prevent Non-Binary and Gender Non Conforming persons from even entering the field to apply for a large percentage of the work due to their binary choices of gender options available to register. This prevents us from both applying for work as so many casting calls require spotlight, but also, from applying honestly. This wastes both the time and money of both performers and professionals seeking artists to cast for specific roles. Non Binary people are valid and performers should not have to identify as other than who they are in order to apply for a very necessary Spotlight membership.
