• Petition to stop destruction of historic St Paul's view
The view from King Henry's Mound in Richmond Park to St Paul's was created in 1711 by the planting of an avenue of trees. It is one of the ten protected views in London. The protection stops high-rise buildings encroaching on the sightline, either between the Mound and St Paul's or behind St Paul's. The view is now threatened by the construction of Manhattan Loft Gardens at Stratford. Already the building clearly compromises the profile of the whole of the dome of St Paul's, in contravention of the Mayor's planning guidance that requires a "clear sky background". The building was given planning permission with GLA acquiescence, without reference to the protected view. The development undermines the whole system of protected views, questions the competence of the GLA planners and destroys a view that has been cherished by Londoners for 300 years.

  • NEW CAPITAL CITY FOR THE UK
London is overcrowded. A brand new capital city would be a showcase for a modern outward looking country. It would provide thousands of homes where there were jobs.

  • Save Sheffield Central Library
Libraries have been under threat across the country. Sheffield has already seen Walkley library sold to commercial interests. Now our council has opened up a review into commercial uses for the Central Library, with the possibility it will become a five-star hotel. The Central Library is a meeting space for groups and individuals, hosts talks by local and national authors and helps people use the internet. It is also a beautiful building, purpose built as a public space, which the general public can currently enjoy. The story of our beautiful art deco Central Library began in 1929, to a design by W. G. Davies and was conceived as part of a plan to create a civic (public) square. Today, the library houses Sheffield's largest general lending and reference collection. The Graves Art Gallery sits on the third floor with a gift shop and cafe and the Library Theatre, a space for local and student theatre companies, lives in the basement. It also houses a children's library. From the start, this building was imagined as a public space from top to bottom and should remain as such.

  • No funding for HS2 until rail links to the South West are secured for the foreseeable future
These cuts to service cause serious economic damage to the entire region. Many South West businesses rely on rail links to export to London and the rest of the country.

  • NHS Free and Open
The NHS was created on the basis of free at the point of access. Doctors, nurses and other health-care workers are not immigration officials deciding who the should or should not treat. This is against the principles of the NHS and the idea that sick people would be denied treatment just because they failed to have the correct paperwork when seeking help is shocking. This is just another attack on peoples rights by the current government and another burden they will place on our NHS. Can you imagine being turned away from a doctors surgery or a hospital just because they can not tick a box on a form confirming your identity. This will affect a wide range of people including both British citizens and migrants as well as asylum seekers. Are receptionist in wards and surgeries going to be asked to refuse people access to medical services? Are we going to have Immigration Officers in every medical facility to check peoples' documents? What will the government do if someone is refused access and later dies as a result? The government has to stop this and come up with a better idea. Placing the burden of deciding who to treat or not is not something our NHS should be doing. They have enough with treating people who are seriously sick and ill.

At present, the host nation is Russia. This country has been bombing civilians in Aleppo. Those people, including women and children now have no hospital because the last remaining hospital was destroyed by Syrian and Russian airforces. Russia is not a fit and proper nation for international sporting events.

  • Support for Scotland’s Council Leaders: Unaccompanied Minors Welcome
Local Councils decide how many unaccompanied minors they will take in their area; that means that at a local level we can make a real difference for refugees and asylum seekers. THIS FRIDAY, 25th November 2016, the leaders of all the Local Authorities in Scotland will meet at COSLA, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, in Edinburgh. The transfer protocol for Unaccompanied Minors will be discussed. COSLA is “your local voice, nationally”. We want our local councils and COSLA to take courage from the fact that we support them welcoming refugees and asylum seekers to the area where we live. They need to hear from us this week. We hope you will encourage individuals to write directly to their local councillors as part of the campaign to Protect Refugee Children here: https://www.liberty-human-rights.org.uk/campaigning/protect-refugee-children The charity “Help Refugees” highlight concerns for the approx. 1000 vulnerable children and young people in accommodation centres across France who still have no information about what process lies in front of them. This uncertainty can cause children to take matters into their own hands, abscond and put themselves in danger. The campaign group Liberty remind us that child refugees endure violence and separation from family members; lose access to education, healthcare, the support of their communities and often face bleak and uncertain futures. Children seeking sanctuary across Europe face routine exploitation and abuse. Many have already disappeared into the hands of traffickers. Local and central government must work together to ensure the Dubs scheme fulfils its potential as a lifeline for some of Europe’s most vulnerable children. We recognise that there are young people in the UK who are homeless or about to become homeless. We do not believe it is a choice between these vulnerable groups, but rather that we protect them both. Could you become a foster carer? You can register your interest here: http://www.homeforgood.org.uk/what-we-do/responding-refugee-crisis You can also use this link to write to your local councilors, MPs and MSPs: https://www.writetothem.com

  • Rip off employment agencies
They have created a system of throw away workers who have no job security and who cannot get access to loans , mortgages or job training. All certificates, licences or training for any job has to be paid for by the worker out of whats left of their wages after they have had to pay for all the employers fees and pay the umbrella company just to be paid for the work they have done. These agencies and payment companies are taking hundreds of millions of pounds that hard working men and women have earned and lining their pockets while the people who have done the actual hard work are left to struggle day to day with no guarantee of work on a daily basis.

  • Wirral Phlebotomy (Blood Test) Service
Centralising the service into 4 Hubs (likely to be Arrowe Park Hospital, Clatterbridge Hospital, Victoria Central Hospital and St Catherines Hospital) as a drop in service will have the following consequences: • Appointment times are likely to be longer especially at busy times. As a drop in service you will not know how long the appointment will take. • Increase travel time. • Exasperate the already difficult parking situation at Arrowe Park Hospital. • Increase costs (public transport or parking charges). The increased travel time and waiting time will have a negative impact on people taking time out from work and children taking time out of school for blood tests.
