Say NO to driver only trains. Keep the guards.Merseyrail plan to axe 220 guard roles due to a new fleet of ‘driver only’ trains, which will be introduced in 2020. It's a bid to save cash, but train guards do all sorts of jobs, from helping when we’ve missed a connection, to being someone we can rely on if ever there’s an emergency. Such as my situation. So last night, I was getting the train home from a fab night, had a bit to drunk and was very vulnerable. Waited at Liverpool central for the train to Ellesmere Port and I got the 9:30 train. Let the guard at the station know I needed that train to make sure I got on it. Finally got on the train where I sat next to the window and put my bag and shoes next to me whilst I went onto my phone. About half way through the journey the train guard came down and sat opposite, asked if I was ok and mentioned where I was getting off to then he asked me to come sit further up the train to ensure I got off safely. Few stops went past and he gestured to another young woman to come down and sit near him so she did.. as she was trying to get a taxi to which she couldn't. He then told us a man had been following me down the train and looking through the reflection and eyeing me up and standing right behind my chair. Unsure of his intentions. Then when I got moved he then began to do the same to the other lady. If it wasn't for the guard being very vigilant and observing what was going on I wouldn't know what could have happened to myself or the other lady. Especially due to the past few days there has been a number of sexual assaults. My boyfriend was waiting for me just over the bridge who then took the other lady home so she was safe. This is why we need the train guards to protect those who maybe vulnerable on trains and to diffuse any situation that may happen. This is why We need to say NO to driver only trains, I am very grateful to that guard and the way Merseyrail dealt with the situation. Change the name of Latimer Road station to GrenfellThe fire at Grenfell tower saw a tragic loss of life, innocent people dying in the most horrific of circumstances. I propose that Latimer Road Underground Station should be renamed in honour of those that have suffered, and to the lessons we must take forward. A permanent renaming would see future generations being aware of the history of the area. London has Monument station which is a testament to those that died in the great fire of London of 1666, an event that shook the city to its core. The current name of Latimer Road is misleading. Latimer Road is located 5 minutes from where the station is, I therefore see no reason why such a change could not come about. The shell Grenfell Tower is located 100m from the station, the train line passes by it . We should not try to block out the horrors but look forward and work together. Efforts are on going to safeguard our families at this time but we must be wise to our choices and make the world a safer place. Review preparations for dealing with a nuclear convoy accidentNuclear warheads are regularly transported in convoys on public roads to and from the atomic weapon factories at Aldermaston and Burghfield, and RNAD Coulport on Loch Long, where the weapons are stored and loaded onto Trident submarines. A nuclear warhead contains radioactive material AND high explosive and this poses serious questions about public safety. Nukewatch has published a report ‘Unready Scotland’ based on the very unsatisfactory answers to a survey of all the Local Authorities that these convoys pass through. The Civil Contingencies Act requires Category 1 Responders (including Local Authorities) to conduct a risk assessment of potential threats and to keep the public informed. It also makes the Scottish Government responsible for making sure that Local Authorities comply. If there was a serious accident the Ministry of Defence would look after the nuclear weapon. Local Councils, Emergency Services and the Health Service would be responsible for potentially contaminated casualties, evacuating people nearby and advising many more to stay indoors. Nukewatch’s survey finds that many councils don’t know anything about these convoys. We want the Scottish Government to openly review how prepared the civil authorities are and inform the public about their findings. Make Ford UK recall, and fix how easy keyless cars can be stolen.Hundreds of Ford cars that use their “Keyless” entry and start, are being stolen each week. Most of these being people’s pride and joy, with normally hundreds and thousands being spent on their cars. Ford are ignoring the issue and they should be held responsible! Every day on social media we are seeing Ford cars, like the RS and ST models being stolen in seconds, and this needs to stop, or make it harder for the thieves! I honestly couldn’t imagine how it must feel to wake up in the morning and see your vehicle not there. No to New Parking Restrictions for Residents/local Businesses by Tower Hamlets Council*No to New Parking Restrictions & Cost for Residents and Local Businesses (by Tower Hamlets Council and its Mayor)* We, the undersigned, oppose and demand a full and proper consultation with residents and stakeholders about the dramatic parking changes proposed by Tower Hamlets Council to bring in parking restriction starting with B2 surrounding areas. If not challenged, this proposal will mean that residents will lose out in yet another money-making exercise by the Council at a time when the Mayor of Tower Hamlets and his Cabinet have given themselves huge pay increases. The Mayor gave himself 11.7% salary increase while residents had 9% increase in their Council Tax since 2016 as well as rates increases for local businesses. We fear that if not opposed, this money-making proposal will gradually spread across the borough. *The Council document titled “Proposed Operational Hours” is flawed and inconsiderate because:* 1) it fails to provide residents with a legitimate option to choose ‘keep parking restriction as is’ in the Council’s list of provided options to choose from. 2) being sent during school holidays when many families might be away. 3) will stop families, friends, relatives and others from visiting their loved ones. It will disproportionately affect families with caring responsibilities and those with extended families. 4) increase the cost of scratch cards. 5) will increase the cost and hassle for local businesses in the borough - some of these businesses have been slapped with astonishing rates increases from £600 sqm to £1000 sqm, instead of finding ways to help these businesses, Mayor-run Tower Hamlets Council is forcing extortionate parking times. *The options - in the council document sent to residents - are:* • Option 1: Monday - Saturday 7.30am to 10pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm • Option 2: Monday - Saturday 8.30am to 10pm and Sunday 10am to 10pm • Option 3: Monday - Sunday 8.30am to 10pm (Note: there is no option to keep the parking restrictions as is) Given the huge pace of development, over-built areas, parking and congestion issues in Tower Hamlets, the Mayor and the Council must do everything possible to restrict developers to have in-built underground parking spaces within the development, as well as providing a combination of other sustainable options instead of penalising residents and local businesses at a time when the Council is spending nearly £50m on consultants, IT upgrades, transformation and other unnecessary measures while residents' services are being slashed and huge salary increases are being given to the Mayor and his Cabinet. Keep our communities moving!I stand with all those charities and community groups that provide transport for a social purpose and community benefit. They enable people to live, learn and work independently, to stay fit and active, to access vital public services and participate in their community. This type of transport provision is Britain at its best with communities doing things for themselves and it must be cherished, protected and nurtured. I want the UK Government to work with its counterparts in the devolved nations to commit themselves to making sure that nobody suffers as a result of its proposed changes operator and driver licensing.
