Save Monarch AirlinesWe request that Monarch Airlines receive a loan from our goverment. Last week Air Berlin went into administration but following a loan from the German government they are able to continue to trade. Monarch airlines went into administration today Monday 2nd of October. 10's of millions of pounds have been spent on hiring Qatar airline to repatriate stranded passengers. We ask our goverment to instead provide a loan to Monarch. The only people who win with Monarch ceasing trading are the CEO's of competitor airlines. Everybody else loses out. We lose one of the UK's oldest and most loved airlines. Monarch is a sound business with an excellent reputation. In 2015 following a reorganisation they showed a substantial profit. The effects of Brexit uncertainty, loss of value of the pound and their routes affected by terrorism, are short term issues. We believe it makes sense to protect the business with a loan with stipulations. It's bad luck they have faced and not a bad business model. With Monarch ceasing we face thousands of job loses of highly experienced people, hundreds of thousands disrupted travel plans and increased costs for our short haul travel. We ask the government to make an initial interest free loan, and as they did with RBS Natwest, take a stake of Monarch. Part-Time Traffic lights at Main Street, Gunthorpe on A6097The traffic on A6097 is too heavy during rush hour, and even with a 40mph speed limit, oncoming traffic is travelling too fast to stop and allow vehicles to cross the road to turn right. The lack of traffic lights at this junction creates a dangerous situation for both the vehicle trying to exit the village and any moving vehicles stopping to allow vehicles to join the A6097 towards Lowdham. The school run being the worst time of the day and with queuing traffic behind, drivers are put under pressure to take risks so they can join A6097. Uber: play by the rules and get your London license backIf Uber plays by the rules, they can get their license to operate in London back and none of us lose out. Transport for London have told Uber they are not allowed to operate in London because of a “lack of corporate responsibility”. This includes not properly reporting serious crime and blocking proper regulation. On top of that, Uber drivers are not being given the rights that people in employment should get. We need a bridge with pedestrian lifts at Abergavenny StationThis station is on the mainline route from Swansea/Cardiff to Manchester and Holyhead, and serves a huge area of Monmouthshire and South Powys, the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains as well as the town of Abergavenny. There are 2 ways to reach the far platform at Abergavenny. One is by a steep footbridge which has 45 steps and is difficult to negotiate, especially in bad weather. The other is to cross the line, accompanied by a member of staff. If you wish to do the latter, then you are expected to phone to notify your request to travel at least 24 hours beforehand. If you wish to travel out of office hours, there will be no members of staff at the station and you are dependent on the guard or the driver of the arriving train to accompany you across the line. So much for spontaneity of travel for many people! We want a bridge with passenger lifts to give full access for disabled passengers, older people and those with heavy luggage. 30% of the population in Monmouthshire is over 60. We were granted the money and planning permission for the bridge about 5 years ago. It never happened because Network Rail could not work out what to do about the position of the signal because the driver’s view of it would be blocked by the new bridge. We demand that Network Rail solve this problem, find the resources and, either replace or resite the signal in order that work on a bridge and lifts can commence. This is not just important to local people; Abergavenny station is used by visitors to major events such as The Food Festival and the Green Man Festival, the Hay Festival, and the 2016 National Eisteddfod. All these events bring visitors and revenue into the area. Traffic calming measures on A647 PudseySince the reconfiguration of the A647 Leeds/Bradford Road there has been an increase in reports of very dangerous driving. Drivers regularly speed up and down the length of the road from Bradford to Leeds and back again, turning at the roundabout at Dawson's Corner. Drivers also regularly jump the pedestrian lights outside the Woodhall post office and there has been several near misses involving local residents including children and babies in prams.
