• Save the very first railway from destruction.
The future of the very first inter-city passenger railway, which opened on 15th September 1830, is under threat. The Manchester Liverpool Road railway station is where it all began: from the railways of old, which made our modern civilisation possible, to the railways of the today, which provide the sustainable transport needed to combat climate change. This incredible part of our international history, with its grade 1 and 2* listed buildings, is in essence, a working station, though it is cared for by the Museum of Science and Industry. It is still connected to the National Rail Network: you can visit the station today, on a real steam train, just as people have done for the past 185 years. Network rail want to change that: as part of an otherwise welcome scheme to connect Manchester Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly, they plan to sever the line. The very first railway will no longer BE a railway: just a museum piece, nothing more. Part of a depressing wider trend of poor strategy and planning, slow obliteration of Northern history and culture and legal wrangling over common sense issues at the tax payers expense, this case involves a 3 million pound "deal" with the Museum of Science and Industry who have abandoned their responsibility to protect this site and a crass lack of respect by National Rail for the history of their own raison d'etre.

  • MOVE STROUD BUS STATION
Stroud's current 'temporary' bus station does not have the facilities a bus station should. Proper shelter, waiting room and cafe are examples. A potentially viable alternative site is London Road car park. Bus stops will remain at the current site, while the new site will become the station proper. If this possibility is to be further explored, support is needed from Stroud residents. This petition gives you the opportunity to lend your support to a cause which could benefit Stroud.

  • Make Travel Free on All Trains in London for Children under 11
TFL have made all travel for children under 11 free in London on buses, trams, underground and overground trains. In addition other train service providers, also provide free travel to those under 11. However almost all train lines in South London require children aged 5-10 to pay. Those people with young families who live in South London are the losers in this postcode lottery. The main train lines who still make children under 11 pay are run by Southern, Southeastern and Thameslink. This petition is addressed to David Brown the CEO of the Go-Ahead Group; and Alistair Gordon the UK CEO of Keolis Group; as these companies own Southern, Southeastern and Thameslink. Travel should be made free on all trains within London for under 11's - to create a fair price for train services regardless of location. https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/travel-for-under-18s/travelling-with-children

  • Prevent Dangerous Toxic Fumes Being Inhaled on Planes
We want to tell the aviation industry to clean up their act. Most of you fly on aircraft. Did you know that the air you are supplied to breathe onboard on all aircraft, except the Boeing 787, comes from the engines? This air is provided unfiltered and is known to become contaminated with a complex cocktail of chemicals including organophosphates (many chemical weapons and pesticides are organophosphate based). This occurs when hazardous jet engine oils or hydraulic fluids contaminate the air supply. The High Court of Australia ruled in 2010 that inhaling these fumes is harmful yet aircraft have NO form of detection systems to warn when the air is contaminated, NO passenger is ever told when they are exposed and pilots have been totally incapacitated in flight from these exposures. Passengers and crews deserve a safe environment to fly or work in. As a former airline captain who has studied this issue for nearly 15 years, please can you support a global campaign to make air travel safer: 1. Help support the development of a blood test to prove exposure to contaminated air on aircraft at: www.gcaqe.org/bloodtest 2. Help support the documentary film AEROTOXIC that will tell the whole story at: www.aerotoxicfilm.com 3. Become informed. Read the educational brochure at: http://gcaqe.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/GCAQE-CAQ-Brochure-17-MAY-2015.pdf Thank you.

  • Free tunnel access for emergency vehicles
An ambulance carrying a pregnant Wirral woman was stopped at Wallasey tunnel over £1.70 toll of Friday 7th Aug 2015. An investigation has been launched after the ambulance carrying 31-year-old was made to pull over at the toll booths at the Wallasey tunnel. The mother to be from Birkenhead, was only 29 weeks pregnant but expected to give birth at any point. She was being transferred back to Arrowe Park Hospital from Ormskirk Hospital, where she had been taken due to a lack of space in the Wirral hospital’s special baby unit. But on Thursday night, space was made available for her and she was transferred back to Wirral on an emergency run, although the ambulance’s blue lights were not active. As they approached the tunnel, the woman at the kiosk asked the ambulance driver for a tag. The ambulance driver told her they hadn’t got one because they were from Lancashire and were just on a job. They were then told that they had to pay the toll. The ambulance driver explained that they were on an emergency job, and had a patient in the back who is being transferred’ but the toll operative said they still had to pay. The ambulance was then made to pull to one side while a manager for the tunnel operator was contacted before the issue could be resolved. This could have cost a life for the sake of £1.70p. Why do the emergency services have to pay at all.? Mersey travel estimated that they collected £185,000 last year from emergency services.

  • Get British Airways to remove the Daily Mail as a free newspaper on flights
It is ironic that our National Carrier gives out a paper which is so xenophobic and critical of most things that are not home grown. What must many of the overseas visitors think of some of the anti-european and other headlines that they read when flying into the UK. All British Airways is doing is keeping up the sales levels of a newspaper that could not be objective if it tried to be and one that then has the hypocrisy to question the integrity of the BBC.

  • Legalising online streaming of UK ATC communication
With times changing this old law is now obsolete and needs re-writing. Most countries allow their Air Traffic Control radio communications to be streamed on web based sites such as Live ATC, and transmitted to the general public for the entertainment of all. The United States does not ban transmission of these frequencies as they no longer deem it a threat to national security now we are in peace time, so why should the UK? By broadcasting these frequencies it can be an educational tool to assist in the understanding of UK aviation phraseology for student pilots and enthusiastic flight simulator fans. By changing this law it will allow people who do not have access to Air Band scanners the ability to enjoy the daily goings on of UK aviation.
