• Improving provision for Autistic individuals in Derbyshire
My name is Jenn Layton. I had an autistic meltdown on the 11th June and ended up in A&E twice in 24 hours with overdoses. I had been referred to the Home Treatment and Crisis Team the day before. When I called them before I took my first overdose to tell them I was on my own and felt risky I was told to go for a walk. I assaulted a member of the hospital staff trying to help on my first admission because I could not cope with the sensory input and left the house in handcuffs when I refused to cooperate with paramedics. I self discharged and went home and overdosed again on alcohol and drugs because I was in a state of physiological shock and unable to behave rationally. I really wanted to die and stop feeling the pain I was in. I am feeling better now but am terrified if this happens again at a weekend and I am still not understood the same thing will happen again, or worse. NHS Derby City and Derbyshire estimate there are approximately 11,000 people in the County somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum. Lack of provision mean we are often unable to achieve anywhere near or full potential. We are stuck between NHS teams, with no dedicated pathway, and often encounter poorly prepared and dangerous situations that can worsen already difficult circumstances. Mental health staff, hospital staff, police and social care are working with no dedicated training or joining up of services. Families, parents and partners are being left alone to pick up the pieces because of the lack of provision, making life miserable and harder for everyone. The number of people on the spectrum is increasing all the time as diagnosis improves. Please add your name and story and make life easier for everyone, Aspies, Autists, their families and the services and save some money for the county in the long term by avoiding countless crisis situations that are occurring every day, in homes and public places in Derbyshire.

  • Put up a CYCLISTS DISMOUNT sign on the alley between Windsor Rd and Warwick Rd in Cambridge.
This morning when I was taking my son to school a lady knocked him with her bike seat and made him cry. When I pointed the fact out to her she refused my request to apologise to him and rode off. Having seen this another lady asked me if I was going to report her to which I replied that I probably wouldn't and she said that the same had happened to her child recently. After talking to a few people I now realise how dangerous this alleyway is. Cyclists use it a a short cut and ride at a speed that would make it very hard to prevent a collision which could potentially have serious consequences.. At school times the alley is used by a number of parents and children who constantly try to avoid the dangers but in reality children do not understand and are unpredictable. I feel that it is only a matter of time until an injury occurs and by cyclists dismounting and adding maybe one minute maximum to their journey to work this risk could be eliminated. If they had children themselves surely they would understand this?

  • End the unfair cutting of Jobseekers Allowance
It is important because many millions of claimants are being unfairly penalised by the government when they claim jobseekers allowance whilst they are actively seeking employment. If you begin a new job then you are paid from the first day of your employment. Why shouldn't it be the same for claimants of jobseekers allowance?

  • Release Shafik Rehman, 81, editor held without charge in Bangladesh
Free voices are being quashed in Bangladesh - whether it is in the press, or bloggers or lecturers. The government has shown that they they can suppress free speech without any recriminations leading others to also take the law into their own hands. Up to now no one has been arrested for the murders of bloggers yet they have arrested Shafik Rehman on the preposterous charge that he was plotting to kidnap the PM's son.

  • Remove Amanda Spielman as Ofsted Chief Inspector
The track record of academy schools is mixed at best with little or no added value achieved in comparison with state schools. Amanda's biased credentials cannot provide an independent perspective on the future of schools. This compromises Ofsted's value and significantly threatens children's education.

  • Return the Elgin marbles to Greece
On a recent visit to Athens and the new Acropolis museum ,I became aware of the significance of these sculptures to the national cultural identity of Greece.(If a similar thing were to happen to a British monument such as Stonehenge there would be an outcry). The UK has a long and friendly history with Greece and the Greek people.Returning the sculptures would lift morale in Greece and help to strengthen that relationship. The marbles should take their rightful place in Athens where they truly belong.

  • Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Alton
The use of glyphosates has already been banned or restricted in 8 countries. It is not acceptable that ourselves, our children and the animals we share our community with are being routinely exposed to these chemicals whether we like it or not. This is a matter of great importance for those of us who care about each other's health and the health of our children, our cats, our dogs and all the flora and fauna of this city, of course including our beloved bees. • Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Hastings and St. Leonards
Until there is conclusive evidence to contradict the World Health Organisation declaration that glyphosate is a 'probable carcinogen' we propose that Hastings Council identify and apply safe methods of weed control. In the interim, please notify residents when glyphosate spraying is planned so they can manually or otherwise deal safely with weeds and also ensure pets and children are not at risk. • Phase out single-use plastic at events
Ever had that feeling at the end of a gig or festival when you see the ground strewn with hundreds of crumpled plastic cups that it shouldn't be this way..? Ever been frustrated that every time you go to the bar, they give you a new cup, whether you like it or not..? It doesn't have to be this way... Every year UK music venues, festivals and sporting events collectively send millions - maybe even billions (there are no figures kept, unsurprisingly) - of plastic cups to landfill needlessly. Cups made in a far-away factory, transported long distances, only to ever be used once, for just a few minutes, before being thrown away, but which will remain in landfill sites for hundreds of years. A 2013 study found that one in six fish in UK waters contained plastics in their bodies. Every piece of plastic that has ever been made still exists as it takes 500 years for plastics to break down. The good news is that in the past year, many progressive venues and organisations, including Glastonbury Festival, Primavera Festival and The Oval Cricket Ground, have either gone plastic-free or started to introduce re-usable cup schemes, in an effort to reduce waste. There's no reason every other music and sporting event can't follow suit, and put an end to the great plastic waste madness, which has ultimately led to the Great Pacific garbage patch and even a prediction that (by weight) there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050. If venues and festival organisers won't do it voluntarily, then there must be legislation to help them do the right thing. We therefore demand, by law, a complete phasing out of single-use plastic at all major UK venues and events by 2020.
