• Slow Down Malling
After many requests and dogged persistence, East Sussex County Council (ESCC) Transport Monitoring team conducted a speed survey on Malling Street/Malling Hill in April. The results were shocking. The data tells us that: • an average of 24,000 vehicles pass by our houses on Malling Street every single day • one third of them are breaking the 30 mph speed limit – 8,000 • over 2,000 of them are going over 36 mph – every single day! We do not believe that we should wait until there is a fatality or serious injury before ESCC put up speed signs, paint road markings indicating the speed limit or – ideally – install a speed camera. We are fed up with the speed of traffic down our street, Malling Street, and Malling Hill, particularly the big HGVs who either don’t know or don’t care about the 30mph speed limit. We are also tired of East Sussex County Council and others taking little action regarding our concerns and requests for speed enforcement. We want: • to create a better environment for all road and pavement users in our area. • less fast and heavy traffic which is dangerous and creates pollution. • all drivers to treat local residents with respect by sticking to the speed limit.

  • Introduce Payment Plans for Young Person's Travel Passes in Kent
Since 2013, the price of a Young Person's Travel Pass in Kent has risen by 480%. A family with two children at secondary school are looking at spending £580 per year and many more families are struggling to meet this cost. We call on Kent County Council to introduce more flexible payment opportunities to help students and parents budget around these price rises. We are also asking Kent County Council to review the cost of travel for those students in full-time education between the ages of 16 and 19. The cost of travel can put many off furthering their studies and we call on KCC to review all travel pass costs for those in education in the county.

  • Traffic Calming and Crossing needed in Haverhill
Burton End Road is a main road in Haverhill. It is used by hundreds of vehicles daily and acts as a main thoroughfare for hundreds of children and their carers attending one of several schools within the area. At the moment, the road narrows to single file at one end and relies on vehicles giving way to each other which more often than not encourages drivers to speed up, going way above the 30mph limit, as they don't want to wait. Vehicles are often seen mounting the already very narrow pavements barely missing pedestrians as well as racing towards pedestrians who attempt to cross the road. We would like to see several changes made to the area including -regular clearance of the foliage opposite Anglian Place which obstructs the narrow pavements - metal barriers along the pavements where the traffic goes into single file -a zebra crossing near to Cleves Road -flashing signs which show the drivers the speed they are travelling at These changes will ensure the risk of a child being run over dramatically reduced as well as encourgage more children and their carers to walk to school as it will be safer thus reducing the traffic volume and carbon emissions.

  • Get speed cameras outside Field End School
This petition is very important as driver's that speed down Field End Road are putting our children in serious danger, as well as us parents. A few serious accidents have happened within the last 6 months, could've been avoided had the driver's stuck to the speed limit.

  • Campaign to reduce the speed limit on Ynysybwl road to 30mph
A recent accident involving a school girl being knocked down and seriously injured has highlighted further local people’s views about the safety of the main road. Several school buses drop off in the area and the area is filled with residential housing and a primary school. The speed limit of 40mph is unacceptable and needs reducing to 30mph. Traffic calming measures need to be introduced.

  • No new road through Pendoylan conservation village
The Ely Valley is a very important SSSI serving the Vale and Cardiff. There is a wealth of protected plants, animals and birds here. There are many ancient woodlands on the route of the proposed new road. All of these could be lost for ever if the road is approved. It is crucial that our Council works with adjoining councils to reduce traffic travelling around the Vale and Cardiff. There is already a parallel road serving this route just two miles away which should be improved to resolve traffic issues. We can’t just keep building roads at the expense of our green fields. 72,000 cars drive in to Cardiff daily and a new road will attract even more cars to this area, creating even more congestion where the new road joins the M4 and A48. We believe that sustainable alternatives should be sought to reduce car dependency. The levels of air pollution in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are now causing more deaths than alcohol or obesity with a rising figure of over 225 deaths a year. Please join us in valuing our countryside and all that it offers for future generations.

  • Reinstate Our Lifeline Weekend Ferry Service
Reducing this service has changed our way of life due to only one ferry running and limited spaces, leaving residents left feeling trapped and isolated at the weekend. The only time most people can get off the island is at the weekend due to working, bairns at school, etc so it’s the busiest time of the week, yet this is when ferries are reduced. It’s taken away the freedom to take family to events out of the isle with so many residents involved in sports, music, etc, going shopping and visiting friends and family.

  • Stop British Airways from using plastic cups and cutlery on their flights
BA carried 45.2 million passengers in 2017 alone ! Most of these would have had drink on their flight. That is 45 million cups in a year, possibly more, and I don't even know how to start calculating the amount of plastic waste that comes from on board meals and flight bags. This unnecessary and senseless plastic addiction must end, especially knowing that there are alternatives that are fully compostable ( much better than the biodegradable ones). We have all been offered drinks on board, just one fast drink and the cup stays around for centuries. Yes, they can argue they recycle them, but there is already enough plastic in the world and we need to stop adding more in it. This would be a great start ! #choosetorefuse #plasticfreedom Image kindly produced by Tom Gallant

  • Safe pedestrian crossing needed at Granville Road and Summer's Lane junction
Currently there is no pedestrian crossing at this fast and busy junction and people are putting themselves in danger by dashing across the road. Many of these pedestrians are school pupils of The Compton School and Wren Academy and users of Finchley Memorial Hospital as well as many mothers with young children. The lack of crossing also means people are standing in a highly polluted area for long periods of time. Barnet Council and TFL are prioritising 'traffic flow' over the safety of people.

  • Save our Northamptonshire buses
The cancellation of bus routes will leave many without any public transport to do the very basics like visiting a doctor, getting to school, or picking up groceries. Without this bus service the most vulnerable in our society will face social isolation, difficulty accessing work, and expensive taxi fares. I have spoken to a woman who uses a bus to visit her 90 year old father. She doesn't know how he'll manage if she can't visit him to help with his meals and cleaning. Another woman in Wilbarston relies upon the 67 bus to see her grandchildren and attend regular GP appointments in Corby - without the bus, she'll be left isolated or face paying £17 for a taxi each way. Northamptonshire County Council have a duty to protect the young, the elderly and other vulnerable groups - cutting these services and leaving these groups isolated, without public access to the most essential services is not right or fair.
