• Save Didcot's Amenities and Green Spaces on Ladygrove!
After signing this petition please formally object via http://didcot.space (will redirect you to the Garden Town plan page) or send an email to [email protected] Comments can be as short or long as you like - just make it clear you object to building on Ladygrove Park. Consultation on these proposals has been extended to 28th February, so please do it now. Thank you! There are plans for 15,000 new houses to be built in Didcot as part of the "Didcot Garden Town" project. This is more than those planned for Bicester Garden Town, recently described as a "dog's breakfast" with ecologically important flower rich meadows being lost to housing. Proposals for Didcot have been announced that are WORSE than first feared. They include building technical office space and accommodation over roughly half of the Ladygrove recreation ground and play park. The remnants would be developed such that there would be no substantial level open green space for casual sports or recreation. A new road cutting across the play park and flats on the play park, opposite the Willowbrook and behind the football club with no additional parking serve to top of this awful proposal. The current morning congestion around the primary school would be intolerable. Our facilities, green spaces and paths integral to our local parkrun are threatened. You can see the briefings here : https://didcotgardentown.commonplace.is/news/2017/01/20/stakeholder-representative-group-presentation-19-january-2017 Campaigners in Bicester have been to court twice to try to protect their environment. If we are to protect our green spaces and amenities the time to act is now, by obtaining a simple undertaking from the project team before their plans are fully formed. If you want to save them please sign this petition and share it with your friends. Thank you! (You can see the Ladygrove areas initially marked out for development on the final pages of these two official downloads published by the Didcot Garden Town planners http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/node/18434 and this http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/node/18447 )

  • Hands off Bury's Green Belt
Greater Manchester Combined Authority is planning for an extra 227,200 homes over the next 25 years. This is based on an unrealistic economic growth of 2.5% year on year and a flawed population growth forecast. If this plan is approved, Bury will bear the brunt of these proposals with 12,500 new dwellings on Green Belt land and a new industrial and warehousing site larger than Trafford Park at the M66 and M60/ M62 motorways junction. More homes are needed and new jobs are welcome, but we can work out ways to meet our housing needs and facilitate the creation of decent, well paid jobs in Bury without encroaching on the existing Green Belt land.

  • Extend the Ultra-Low-Emission-Zone to the whole of London
We are calling on the Mayor of London to tackle air pollution and save lives by creating an Ultra Low Emission Zone (‘ULEZ’) to cover the whole of Greater London. An ULEZ is an area in which vehicles must meet exhaust emission standards or pay a daily travel charge. The highest charges will be paid by the most polluting vehicles. The Mayor is proposing to create an ULEZ for all vehicles in central London in 2019. He is consulting on whether to extend it to cover the area inside the North and Circular Road and also to create an ULEZ for the whole of London but only for heavy vehicles. We are asking him to go further. Air pollution is now a major health risk. We need powerful measures to tackle it. An ULEZ which applies only to heavy vehicles will not be enough to protect people from pollution in outer London, especially where people live and work next to the North or South Circular. Creating an ULEZ for all vehicles to cover the whole of London would significantly reduce pollution in outer London and would better improve the air quality in central London than an ULEZ that covers central London alone. For these reasons we ask you to add your name to this petition:

  • Save the 08.20am daily Aberdeen to Penzance cross country train
A UK Cross Country network requires that passengers and potential passengers have to make as few changes en route as possible. If Aberden passengers and passengers between Aberden and Edinburgh have to chage trains at Edinburgh Waverley rail travel is no longer attractive. Connections will be missed. It wil be difficult for passengers with a lot of luggage, children, or are disabled or infirm to move across Edinburgh Waverley to find a so called connecting train or in many cases impossible for people to use the trains if they have to change trains. Chaining trains is not attractive to passengers.

  • Reduce the speed on Hauxton Road
The section from the junction with Shelford Road to the junction with Addenbrooke's road is now much more built up than previously. Many children cross this road to attend Trumpington Meadows primary school. Reducing speed by 10mph will reduce the risk of death in a collision by 40%.

  • No funding for HS2 until rail links to the South West are secured for the foreseeable future
These cuts to service cause serious economic damage to the entire region. Many South West businesses rely on rail links to export to London and the rest of the country.

  • Shut the M8 to traffic for a day and let us have a party!
https://www.facebook.com/CarfreeGlasgow/videos/370608413272820/ Glasgow is the only city in the UK to have a six lane motorway cutting right through its heart. Yet, less than half of our households have access to cars. For the last 45 years we have all had to put up with a continual stream of traffic roaring through our city. Enough is enough. We want the chance to breathe fresh air and to hear ourselves think. We need the time and space to come together to start to imagine a more equal and sustainable future for our city. - Scotland has the worst health and lowest life expectancy in Europe. The physical inactivity encouraged by car use is more hazardous to health than smoking: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-18876880 - Glasgow has toxic levels of air pollution that breached World Health Organisation standards in 2016. Air pollution causes strokes, heart attacks and asthma and is responsible for over 300 deaths in our city every year: http://www.foe-scotland.org.uk/air-pollution - A quarter of our city's carbon emissions come from traffic, contributing to dangerous climate change. 2016 was the hottest year on record and the third of record-breaking heat in a row: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/nov/14/2016-will-be-the-hottest-year-on-record-un-says We need bold and inspiring action to begin to address the crises caused by car use. We must radically re-think our cities so that everyone can get around easily and live healthy and happy lives without need or aspiration to own a car. Like many other cities around the world, Glasgow must also start dreaming of a time in the future when the outdated motorway infrastructure of the 20th century can be re-imagined and re-used in different ways. Our annual ‘carfree day’ will be the start. • Disabled parking near Morecambe Post Office
Disabled people can no longer park near to the parcel collection office. Instead, a taxi rank has been painted where disabled access used to be. Many people with a disability who are unable to walk far can no longer collect their own parcel. This discriminates against disabled people and impacts their independence.

  • KEEP 54 BUS LOOP FOR GOODWOOD, LEICESTER
Evington ward has the highest proportion of elderly people in Leicester. Without this 54 bus service, residents along Gamel Walk, Gamel Road, Harringworth Road, Skampton Road, Davenport Road, Withcote Avenue, Oakside Road and Beechwood Close are effectively being cut off from access to medical care, shopping facilities and contact with the outside world. Isolation and loneliness in the elderly costs the NHS a lot of money. If the route was reversed and both the 54 and 54A buses were going the same way, then the turning would be better and there would be less likelihood of congestion.

  • Retain local government-run bus services
Local authorities are able to provide rural bus services which would not be viable if under private ownership; they can cross subsidise them from more profitable urban services. Local authority bus services must be an option within the Bus Services Bill. In Nottingham, the Nottingham City Transport has invested in electic buses and hydrogen fuelled transport which is reducing air pollution in Nottingham. They are an award-winning service. The private buses are predominantly diesel.
